Vision…
We are an organization committed to helping kids and teens navigate through traumatic events and helping children identify and counter racial injustices in their lives through literature.
We believe that literacy -- the ability to read, write, and understand -- is a civil right. Along with racial and social justice, literacy is a fundamental human right, just like any other liberty we enjoy. It is time to declare that literacy is a civil right in our country and globally. Reading is the gateway to learning and lifelong success.
Literacy has no geographic boundaries and is at the core of sustainable solutions to the world’s greatest problems. Literacy builds the foundation for freedom from poverty, freedom from disease, and freedom from oppression.

Chrispon H. Charles, Jr. — A civil rights violation.
Founder, Wanda Charles, poses holding a picture of her uncle, Crispon Charles, Jr. She had never seen his face before the cold case team uncovered a photo of him in a Navy uniform.(WANF)
Since learning more about her uncle’s case, Wanda has founded a literacy nonprofit named for him. A few weeks ago, she provided books to over 200 Gwinnett County fifth graders and spoke to their class about the importance of righting civil wrongs.
